The Technological Educational Institute of Athens is the third largest University in Greece. It is a public institution and it is divided in 5 Faculties and 37 Departments. Besides undergraduate education, TEIA participates in master courses in collaboration with other National and foreign Universities and Research Institutions. TEIA coordinates and participates in International and National funded programs including FP7, COST, Erasmus, Leonardo Da Vinci and Tempus. Certified administration services support the efficient management of programs and projects.
TEIA hosts a Library, Interconnection Office, Sanitation Service, Public & International Relations and Ongoing Education Centre. The Department of Medical Instruments Technology (MIT) is the only academic institution providing undergraduate education in the field of biomedical engineering in Greece. It participates in the project through the Medical Instrumentation Laboratory of Prof. Loudos, which focused on the design, development and application of imaging systems suitable for SPECT and PET imaging.
The group is responsible for the design and execution of Monte Carlo simulations in order to optimize the PET system and for the use of anthropomorphic brain phantoms (WP3) to provide data for the evaluation of MR-based attenuation correction and reconstruction and correction software optimization (WP5) and the coordination of project dissemination and exploitation activities (WP8).
